Rozelle has quietly become one of the better eating suburbs in the Inner West. Darling Street carries the foot traffic, the side streets carry the surprises, and the arrival of a few serious operators has lifted the whole strip rather than flattening it.

Totti's sits at 197 Evans Street, inside the old 3 Weeds Hotel, a 130 year old building the Merivale team rebuilt into a dining room. Executive chef Mike Eggert runs the kitchen, and the Rozelle site has something the Bondi and CBD Totti's do not: a Brazilian style charcoal grill.
Order the puffy bread, because everyone does and it deserves it. Past that, handmade pasta, antipasti, charcoal grilled proteins and large format steaks. There is a dedicated dessert bar doing gelato and sundaes, and kids are encouraged to order for themselves, which is a small thing that matters enormously on a Sunday.
2. Three Weeds
The pub side of the same building
Worth knowing that Three Weeds and Totti's share an address. The heritage pub still runs as a pub and bistro alongside the restaurant, under the same Merivale roof, which makes the building a rare Inner West venue where you can choose your night rather than your postcode.
Take the pub side when you want a bar, a schooner and modern Australian bistro food without committing to a full dining room. Outdoor seating and a relaxed bar area make it the easier of the two for a spontaneous Friday.
3. Darlings Bistro
Comfort food, done from scratch
A small local room doing comforting classics and a rotating specials board. The appeal is that nothing is trying to be clever: simple dishes, made properly, in a space that suits a quiet dinner more than a big group.
It works for brunch and it works for a weeknight, which is a harder combination to pull off than most menus admit.
4. The Old Rosebud

The Old Rosebud straddles the line between cafe and restaurant, with good coffee at one end of the day and a proper menu at the other. Fresh, local ingredients and an unfussy approach; the sort of place that fills with regulars rather than bookings.
